Webinar: Too hard to stomach: A case study of anorexia nervosa

Thu 12th October 2023 @ 7:00 pm

Psychiatrists from the NSLHD Eating Disorders Service will discuss diagnosis and management in the complex area of Eating Disorders, including information about their service and how they can support your patients.

With 45,800 people in Northern Sydney currently living with an eating disorder, surprisingly eating disorders remain a significant diagnostic and management challenge in primary care, due to associated individual and systemic barriers to care.

Through case studies, the speakers aim to instil hope in the eating disorders space, discussing complexities often encountered in primary care including:
– Patterns of initial presentation
– Features of starvation syndrome (including when to act) and their cross-over with psychiatric comorbidities
– The complexities around BMI
– Service referral pathways for outpatient services and support

We will briefly discuss the General Practice Mental Health Consultation Liaison Service run by the Northern Beaches Community Mental Health Team.
