WEBINAR: Pancreatic and Liver Cancer Update

This webinar is designed to update GPs, Nurses, and Allied Health Professionals in the Sydney North Health Network region on the current state of pancreatic cancer care and its evidence-based management. Our speakers will cover surgical management of neuroendocrine tumours, the latest developments in liver cancer in Northern Sydney, including screening protocols for patients with cirrhosis and fatty liver disease, and their evidence-based treatment as well as Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC).

This is part of a series of cancer webinars that we will offer throughout this year.

Director of Pancreatic Centre, Royal North Shore Hospital; Head of Surgery, Ryde hospital.

Professor Anubhav Mittal
Professor Mittal is a robotic and laparoscopic gallbladder, hernia, liver and pancreatic surgeon specializing in gallstones, hernias, liver tumours and pancreatic cancer. Prof Mittal is one of the founding members of the Australian Pancreatic Centre based at RNSH. He is the Surgical Lead for the quality improvement NSQIP program at RNSH which aims to reduce surgical complications. Prof Mittal is also the head of GIT surgery at the Mater Hospital in Sydney and the Head of Discipline of Surgery at the Mater Clinical School for the University of Notre Dame.

Dr Kai Brown – BSc(Med)Hons MBBS PhD FRACS
Kai Brown is a hepatobiliary, pancreatic and general surgeon at Royal North Shore Hospital, North Shore Private Hospital and Mater Hospital. His main areas of expertise are in treatment of tumours and diseases of the liver, pancreas and gallbladder, as well as abdominal wall hernias. Kai is the Academic Lead, Robotic Surgery, SERT Institute, RNSH, National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) Surgical Champion, RNSH and Senior Lecturer in Surgery, Northern Clinical School, The University of Sydney.

 

TARGET AUDIENCE:

GPs, Nurses and Allied Health Professonals working in the Sydney North Health Network region.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
  • Describe the significance of a high-capacity centre in managing pancreatic cancer and the importance of team based care
  • Recognise signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer
  • Describe the importance of early referral
  • Examine treatment strategies for patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, including surgical management of neuroendocrine tumours
  • Identify treatment options for patients with liver cancer and chronic liver disease
COST:
There is no cost for Practices and their staff within the SNHN region to attend this training
