Face to Face: Mental Health Management in Residential Aged Care Facilities

Sydney North Health Network (SNHN) invites local GPs, Nurses,and Residential Aged Care Facilities (RACF) Staff to this workshop to discuss and Identify common mental health presentations among older people living in residential aged care, the effects of social needs on mental health and how to effectively engage support to manage their conditions.

Speakers will also discuss the role of community in the support of residents of RACF’s , especially given the workforce shortage and pressures on remaining staff from the Royal Commission’s demands.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Local General Practitioners, Primary Care Nurses, and  Residential Aged Care Facility staff

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

-Recall common mental health issues in RACF’s

-Identify when to refer a resident and to whom? (difference between low to moderate intensity MH needs to complex MH needs), role of GP, nurse, EWOP, OPMH , DSA

-Describe emotionally supportive and trauma informed approaches to support residents in RACF
