Disaster Management Basic Training for General Practitioners and other Primary Care Providers – it is a requirement that participants attend both Part 1 (17 October) and Part 2 (24 October) of this training.
Part 1 will use a scenario to assist participants in understanding local risk of disaster hazards and how a disaster will be managed in the Sydney North PHN region. It will discuss the potential impact on General Practice, health providers and local community in our region and will outline how to create a disaster plan for the practice.
Part 2 will build on the knowledge from Part 1 and discuss the patient presentations you might see in General Practice during a disaster and run through the response to a disaster in your local practice. It will outline how GPs and staff might contribute in an evacuation centre. It will also cover cybersecurity issues for General Practice and include lessons learned about the effects of a disaster on the General Practice business by GPs who have been through bushfire and flood disasters.
This course will equip participants with the skills to:
– Understand how a disaster health response is organised and how GPs and local health professionals might be involved whether in the usual General Practice or assisting in evacuation centres or on site.
– Outline how the PHN will support GPs during a disaster
– Outline how to do disaster triage sieve and sort during a mass casualty incident.
– Understand Psychological First Aid and Skills for Psychological Recovery
