APNA Nurses Northern Sydney Network

Northern Sydney Nurses Network, in partnership with Sydney North Health Network (SNHN) and the Australian Primary Health Nurses Association (APNA), invites members and primary health nurses to this networking and education event. The meeting will provide a networking opportunity as well as an update from Melise Ammit on Alcohol use: starting a conversation.

Melise Ammit CNS2, Credentialled D&A Nurse – NSLHD
Melise is employed as a Clinical Nurse Specialist with the Northern Sydney Local Health District, operating a nurse-led alcohol clinic at Brookvale, and as an inpatient D&A consultation/liaison nurse at RNSH. Melise’s special interests are alcohol use disorders in midlife women, and nursing education. She is a Casual Academic at UTS and is undertaking an Honours degree in clinical teaching.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Primary Health Practice Nurses

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

• Knowledge of policy approach to alcohol and other drug use in Australia.
• Understand alcohol use disorders, withdrawal management and treatment options.
• Explore attitudes and communication techniques for people who use alcohol.
• Enhance confidence in providing brief & opportunistic interventions to clients.
