NSW Multicultural HIV and Hepatitis Service – What is HIV?

There are nine services on the Northern Sydney to help you if there is a chance you will become homeless. If you are already homeless, they will help you access crisis or transitional accommodation. Importantly they will work with you to help make sure that you don’t become homeless in the future.
A range of people access these services, including single women and men, young people and families. All services can help Aboriginal people and people from different cultures. You can be referred to a service by a friend or family member, the Link2home phone line or by another service. If you’d prefer, you can contact services directly yourself.

Training and information for Health Professionals

The list below includes courses and information suitable for GPs, Aboriginal Health Workers, specialists, allied health workers, nurses and midwives. They help support recognition of menopause and perimenopause presentations, evidence-based management in general practice, and informed discussions with patients.

Upcoming event:

  • The Menopause Prescribing Playbook: Practical MHT for Busy GPs – 18th June, Kolling Institute, St Leonards

    • SNHN invites general practitioners and Practice Nurses to join clinicians from the Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) Menopause Hub for a practical session focused on the everyday prescribing of menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) in general practice. This presentation will explore commonly used MHT formulations and brands, strategies for individualising treatment, management of common side effects and patient concerns, and practical troubleshooting tips frequently encountered in the consulting room.

Courses and resources:

The Quality Use of Medicines (QUM) Alliance QHUB website provides access to resources, webinars and other educational activities, aimed at increasing professional knowledge and understanding of the evidence-based management of menopause symptoms. The QHUB provides a number of resources including a Clinical Guide for health professionals, and a Decision Aid to support shared decision-making for clinicians and their patients.

Information on educational opportunities can be accessed via the QHUB website.

A reminder that two new MBS items for health assessments for menopause and perimenopause, (MBS Items 695 and 19000), commenced on 1 July 2025 to support these conversations with your patients. For more information:

There are two types of abortion used to end a pregnancy:

  • surgical abortion – which involves an operation, usually under a light sedation, to end the pregnancy
  • medical abortion – which involves taking medications that cause a miscarriage and can be offered if you are less than nine weeks pregnant

Ultrasound

An ultrasound is required prior to both surgical and medical abortions to confirm the pregnancy and the age of the pregnancy. Your service provider will either perform the ultrasound or provide you with a referral.
