A new national campaign launching in October will encourage patients to discuss their reported penicillin allergy with their GP. As fewer than 10% of people labelled as penicillin-allergic are truly allergic, many patients may be unnecessarily avoiding the most appropriate antibiotics. Routine penicillin allergy assessment can improve antibiotic choice, reduce antimicrobial resistance, and support better patient care.
