New Medicare Mental Health Centre opens in Ryde

Residents in Ryde and surrounding suburbs can now access free, walk‑in mental health support with the opening of the Ryde Medicare Mental Health Centre this month.

The new Centre provides a welcoming and accessible frontline service for people seeking mental health, social and emotional wellbeing support, without the need for appointments or referrals.

It offers immediate, personalised support in a safe, inclusive and non‑clinical environment.

Staffed by experienced clinicians and peer support workers, the Ryde Medicare Mental Health Centre focuses on listening first, taking the time to understand each person’s circumstances and connect them with the right care and local supports when they need them.

The Centre was officially opened by the Hon Emma McBride MP, Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, alongside Jerome Laxale MP, Member for Bennelong. The service is funded by the Australian Government and delivered in partnership by PCCS (Primary & Community Care Services) and Sydney North Health Network, the Primary Health Network for Northern Sydney.

Sydney North Health Network CEO Jacqui Emery said the service responds directly to what the community has been asking for.

“We saw a clear need for timely and local free support, without complex entry points, and with the flexibility to respond to people as they are and when they need help,” said Ms Emery.

“Ryde Medicare Mental Health Centre reflects that intent, bringing together clinical care, peer support and strong local partnerships in a way that feels really welcoming.”

A/Prof JR Baker, CEO of PCCS, pointed to the benefits of an easily accessible service that doesn’t put up unnecessary barriers when people seeking help are already vulnerable.

“People shouldn’t have to navigate complex systems to get mental health support. This Centre provides a simple, accessible place to start getting support, staffed by clinicians and peer workers who understand the value of listening first. PCCS is pleased to bring this model to Ryde,” noted A/Prof Baker.

“This is a place you can come without an appointment and have a conversation. We’ll help connect you to mental health care, local activities and services, and practical help, based on what matters to you and what’s going on in your life.”

The Ryde Medicare Mental Health Centre is part of a growing network of Medicare Mental Health Centres operating across Greater Sydney and Australia.
