Public Health Unit notice: Infanrix-Hexa with syringes and vials having different expiry dates

The Northern Sydney Public Health Unit (NSPHU) has advised there have been reports of some Infanrix-Hexa syringes and vials having different expiry dates (see example below). The vaccine manufacturer, GSK, has advised this is due to different manufacturing times for the components. GSK has confirmed that when this happens, the expiry date printed on the vaccine outer box is the correct date to use.

Example

  • Batch A21CE431A: vaccine vial expiry – 04/2026; Hib and vaccine box expiry 01/2026
  • Batch A21CE599B: vaccine vial expiry – 05/2028; Hib and vaccine box exp 04/2028

What immunisers need to do

  • Always check the expiry date on the outer box first.
  • Use the vaccine outer box expiry date, even if the syringe or vial displays a later date.
  • Do not administer the vaccine if the box expiry date has passed.

Please refer to Northern Sydney Public Health Unit on 1300 066 055 if you have any questions.
