NSLHD will only accept eReferrals through HealthLink after 1st Dec 2025
From 1 December 2025, Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) will only be accepting electronic referrals (eReferrals) from General Practitioners (GPs) through the HealthLink platform. Outpatient Services in NSLHD will reject paper/fax/emailed referrals from GPs and request the referral is resubmitted by the GP through HealthLink.
NSLHD uses HealthLink Smart Forms which is available through GP clinical software systems (e.g. MedicalDirector, Best Practice, Zedmed, Medtech) or the MyHealthLink Portal. Using this method results in improved two-way communication with GPs and reduces the administrative burden on general practice staff.
The implementation of eReferrals is part of NSW Health’s broader digital eHealth strategy and offers several key benefits:
- A secure and reliable platform that reduces the risk of lost or delayed referrals
- Improved completeness and accuracy of clinical information, with the ability to add information directly from a patient’s clinical records
- Real-time status updates and tracking of referral progress
- Secure and timely communication between referring practitioners and hospital services.
To ensure that your referral meets the required inclusion criteria, please consult the relevant pathway on Sydney North HealthPathways. Each eReferral form is linked to the relevant HealthPathways Request page that specifies the inclusion criteria.
