World Elder Abuse Awareness Day – 15 June 2016

Word Elder Abuse Awareness Day, an initiative of the United Nations General Assembly, aims to bring attention and awareness to the plight of older members within our communities, some of whom are subjected to abuse.

Abuse can take many forms. There is the physical or psychological abuse, as well as financial abuse, neglect or sexual abuse of an older person.

If you think an older person is being abused, make the call.

Call the NSW Elder Abuse Helpline Tel: 1800 628 221. The Helpline provides the following services:

  • Information, support and referrals for people who experience, witness or suspect the abuse of older people.
  • Resources and training for service providers.
  • Awareness raising & information sessions for community groups to promote preventative strategies to reduce the abuse of older people in NSW.

The NSW Elder Abuse Helpline forms part of the NSW Ageing Strategy, a whole-of-government approach, to help seniors live healthy, active and socially connected lives.
