Social Prescribing = Healthy Active Ageing
The Waverton Hub is a local, community built organisation offering an ideal social outlet for residents of Waverton, Wollstonecraft and neighbouring suburbs. The Hub offers activities to support healthy active ageing in a local community environment and is a referral option for social prescribing.
Social prescribing enables GPs, nurses and other primary care professionals to refer people to a range of local, non-clinical services, recognising that people’s health can be determined primarily by a range of social, economic and environmental factors. Social prescribing seeks to address people’s needs in a holistic way. It also aims to support individuals to take greater control of their own health. The Hub was launched in 2013 and quickly attracted more than 300 members who participate in affordable exercise classes, art classes, walking groups, education and a range of other activities to stimulate minds.
Many members report that social contact and reduction in social isolation is what they enjoy most about the Hub. The opportunity to make new friends is especially appreciated by newcomers to the area.
