Moon Festival Celebrations Night 2016 will be held on Saturday 10 September, from 4pm to 8pm, at 41 Essex Street Epping NSW (near Epping Library). This year the Festival will be celebrated in a unique cross-cultural style that welcomes every family to bring your best home-made dish and wear your own ethnic traditional costumes. Come on the night to discover the traditional folk customs of this interesting traditional Chinese event with your very multicultural community.
Moon Festival is an “intangible cultural heritage” of many Chinese, Vietnamese and Asian people. It is a traditional festival celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month in the Chinese calendar, and it normally falls into early September to early October. On the night, the Moon Festival is celebrated by a family and friends gathering when the moon is the brightest and roundest of the year which represents family reunion.
Moon Festival Celebrations Night 2016 is sponsored by Multicultural NSW and Homart Pharmaceuticals to build and maintain a cohesive and harmonious multicultural society that enriches the lives of all the people of NSW. It is organised by the Chinese Christian Community Service Centre (CCCSC) in collaboration with Sydney Chinese Opera Association, Community Migrant Resource Centre, Australian Asian Cultural Association and Hepatitis NSW.
As Australians love Asian food, please come and enjoy this traditional reunion dinner gathering! There will be many traditional performances and programs, free activities are Traditional performances, such as Chinese opera, Chinese dance, traditional music, Chinese chess, riddles and kid’s lantern treasure hunts, and family games. The gold coin donation activities are Chinese opera mask making, Moon cake making, Rainbow lantern making and Tic Tac Toe games. There will also be a special opportunity for families to express their love to each other under the moon.
