How to Build Mental Health Literacy Responsiveness Through Quality Improvement

This meeting is hosted by South Western Sydney PHN on behalf of the New South Wales PHNs and funded through the Mental Health Commission of NSW Health Literacy Initiative.

Aim: Build skills and strategies to respond to the diverse health literacy needs of patients with mental health concerns by improving communication, understanding and participation in their care. The session will utilise case scenarios, peer discussion and resources relevant for general practice.

Learning outcomes:
• Demonstrate communication techniques to enable active engagement and shared decision making.
• Describe best practice recommendations relevant to general practice.
• Develop improvements in current patient management in the light of new developments in these areas.
• Develop system changes within the practice to improve safety of patients with mental health concerns
