Hornsby Health Kids received a Medibank Community Grant, and already it’s making a significant difference to our service and the families who participate in our program. Thanks to the grant, we have been able to upgrade our Exercise Therapist from a volunteer to a paid consultant, making attendance more consistent and reliable for our children. Tom is a great drawcard and certainly helps promote the value of activity and exercise for the children.

We have also been able to invite an additional dietician to attend the clinic to support both group-based and individual sessions with parents.

Our program runs once a month on Wednesday afternoons, with about 20 families currently enrolled and attending regularly. As we had a break over January, there has just been one session so far this year, but we have another scheduled for 9th March and plenty more to come in the year ahead.

Planning is also underway to upgrade the courtyard area to make it safer and more appropriate for the activity sessions, and we would welcome the involvement of volunteers in this process once work commences!

Hornsby Healthy Kids is a joint venture of the Northern Sydney Local Health District and the Sydney North Health Network and informs local families about the benefits of active play, how to increase childhood activity and how to make better food, parenting and lifestyle choices to help kids lead healthy lives.
