Inviting expressions of interest from general practitioners, practice nurses and practice managers to participate in a co-design workshop. Your insights and input will be pivotal in the planning of multidisciplinary osteoarthritis clinics across Northern Sydney.
Management of chronic musculoskeletal disease
General practitioners play a significant role in the early diagnosis, assessment and treatment of patients with chronic musculoskeletal conditions such as osteoarthritis. Most GPs (70%) agree that osteoarthritis is a serious disease and that, even when treated, can have a significant impact on a person’s overall health and wellbeing.
Early identification of patients at risk of high utilisation of healthcare services or premature hospitalisation for joint replacement surgery is well recognised. Evidence for the conservative management of patients with mild-moderate osteoarthritis symptoms is strong.
Osteoarthritis services in primary health care
Sydney North Health Network, Northern Sydney Local Health District and the NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation are seeking input from GPs, practice nurses and practice managers with an interest in the management of osteoarthritis in general practice. The aim of the workshop is to identify strategies for enhancing and integrating patient care provided by GPs and community-based allied health professionals with hospital-based osteoarthritis services.
How can I get involved?
It has been proposed that multidisciplinary osteoarthritis clinics be offered in primary health care settings such as general practices, where possible, or suitable community-based venues across the region.
The next phase is to consult with GPs, practice nurses and practices managers to better understand how integrated, multidisciplinary osteoarthritis services can be enhanced or established. We would like to gain your insights on what can be realistically achieved in day to day general practice.
