Family Planning NSW – New National Cervical Cancer Screening Updates for Clinicians

SYNOPSIS: 

  1. The National Cervical Cancer Screening Program will change from 1 May 2017. Doctors, nurses and midwives will need to ensure they are up to date on all the changes and Family Planning NSW is offering a range of educational updates. The New National Cervical Cancer Program one-hour session is designed for doctors, nurses and midwives to provide an update on the changes to the National Cervical Cancer Screening Program which will come into place from 1 May 2017. The session will include a presentation on the new Guidelines for the Management of Screen-Detected Abnormalities in Specific Populations and Investigation of Abnormal Vaginal Bleeding, a brief demonstration on the new cervical screening test incorporating HPV DNA and liquid based cytology sampling techniques, orientation to the updates resources and an interactive Q&A session. The session can be delivered as a face to face session or as a webinar to ensure all clinicians in NSW have access to the sessions, no matter where they are located.
  2. Cervical Cancer Screening Case Discussion sessions are designed for doctors, nurses and midwives to work through case-based scenarios with a focus on practical topic areas including under and never-screened women, young women and women with abnormal vaginal bleeding, transition of women from the current program into the new program, interpretation and communication of results as well as referral and follow-up for screen-detected abnormalities. Doctors and nurses will have a chance to submit case studies to be discussed as part of this session. This session can be delivered as a 30 minute face to face session or as a webinar to ensure all clinicians in NSW have access to the sessions, no matter where they are located.
  3. Updated GP Upskilling and Well Women’s Screening Courses – launching in July 2017, the updated cervical cancer screening courses are for doctors and nurses who wish to develop their skills and confidence in cervical screening. These sessions will include theory on cervical screening, simulation of cervical screening and a practical component with a practice patient enabling each participant to refine their skills in performing cervical screening including a speculum examination.

All courses will be accredited CPD with RACGP and ACCRM.
