Expression of Interest: Falls Clinical Audit

  • 1 in 3 older adults 65 years and over living in the community fall every year – help your older patients prevent falls and stay independent
  • Earn 40 Category 1 RACGP QI&CPD Points
  • Complete a Clinical Audit to assist you in meeting the RACGP QI requirement for the2014/16 triennium

By completing this learning activity, participants will be able to:

  • Implement a systematic approach to identify older patients (65 years or older) who are at risk of falling
  • Prompt patients to recognise their fall risk and discuss what the patients can do to prevent falls
  • Assess patient’s risk of falling and determine tailored fall prevention recommendation according to patient’s fall risk factor
  • Refer to trained fall prevention service providers in the community
  • Review and encourage patient’s uptake of fall prevention recommendation

This clinical audit is being offered as part of a randomised controlled trial – GP practices may be allocated to either intervention or control group (control GP practices will be offered the intervention and the option to complete this clinical audit after 12 months). Participating GPs will be offered one hour education visit at the beginning of the audit at which time you will be offered self-learning fall prevention resources and a list connecting you with trained fall prevention service providers in your local area. In recognition of your contribution to the trial, the first three GPs from your practice who participate will receive AUD$100 each.

For further information please contact Amy Tan, iSOLVE Research Project Coordinator Ph: 9036 7463 or email amy.tan@sydney.edu.au. She will be available to visit your practice to show you the tools/resources and speak to you about how you can participate.
