Perinatal Mental Health

This training was aimed at increasing health practitioners’ knowledge of the management of perinatal mental health. As many as 1 in 5 expecting or new mums and 1 in 10 expecting or new dads will experience perinatal anxiety or depression.

Learning Outcomes:

• Demonstrate an understanding of the prevalence and impact of perinatal anxiety and depression in the Australian context
• Recognise the incidence and manifestations of perinatal anxiety and depression in fathers
• Recognise and respond to common mental health presentations in the perinatal period
• Demonstrate knowledge and expertise in the area of prescribing medications to treat depression and anxiety in the perinatal period
• Develop skills to provide psychosocial care to women in the perinatal period
