My Health Record – Small group workshop for GPs

The My Health Record opt-out period has been announced and will be for three (3) months commencing 16 July 2018. Every Australian will then get a My Health Record, unless they choose not to.

SYNOPSIS:

Sydney North Primary Health Network (SNPHN) invites local GPs, Primary Care Nurses, Practice Managers and Practice staff to a workshop to develop and apply understanding of Aboriginal cultures to improve service and program outcomes. This workshop also includes pre-course work including completion of two online assessments.
All practices registered for the Indigenous Health Incentive (IHI) PIP are required to participate in cultural awareness training within one year of registering.


Dementia Quality Care

SYNOPSIS:

In Australia, dementia is the second leading cause of death, in the absence of a cure there is increasing focus on risk reduction, timely diagnosis and early intervention.
This session focuses on the physical co-morbidities of dementia, including fall related injuries, delirium, frailty, epilepsy, malnutrition and other health conditions associated with dementia.
Recommendations will be discussed for the assessment and management of these co-morbidities and suggestions developed for the implementation of these recommendations.

Designing Decision Support to Reduce Inappropriate Polypharmacy in Older Inpatients – Understanding User Perceptions and Workflows

SYNOPSIS:

Researchers led by Professor Sarah Hilmer, at Royal North Shore Hospital’s Kolling Institute, are designing a computerised tool that supports deprescribing to reduce inappropriate polypharmacy in older inpatients. The aim of this project is to test design ideas generated by previous focus groups regarding language used in discharge summaries to communicate benzodiazepine deprescribing with GPs. Researchers are seeking general practitioners to participate in approximately 30-minute interviews and/or 1 hour focus groups, participants will be asked to provide their opinions about proposed wording to communicate benzodiazepine deprescribing in hospital discharge summaries. Participants will be reimbursed for their time.
