WEBINAR – Wound Care in General Practice Webinar Series MULTIPLE DATES

Sydney North Health Network (SNHN) invites local General Practitioners, Practice Nurses and Residential Aged Care Nurses to a webinar series which is aimed at increasing knowledge and skills for managing patients with acute and chronic wounds.  It will provide clarity on patient assessment and identification of patients that require referral. In addition, we will look at dressings and how to select the right dressing to optimise patient experience and outcomes.

• Provide an overview of wound healing, factors that impact healing, and the importance of assessment and documentation
• Identify the difference between acute and chronic wounds
• Provide an understanding of first aid for burn injuries and how to manage minor burns
• Provide an understanding of prevention and treatment of skin tears

Wednesday 17 June 2020
Speaker: Sue Monaro, Skin Integrity Improvement Facilitator NSLHD and Senior Clinical Lecturer, USyd

  • Identify new concepts in wound prevention and management
  • Identify complex skin loss – what and when to escalate and refer
  • Identify current services available to support patients with complex wounds – who and where to escalate
  • Provide an understanding of managing a range of wounds  (covering cellulitis, ulceration (arterial, venous, diabetic foot, atypical), pressure Injuries and malignant wounds)

• Review chronic wound assessment and wound bed preparation
• Review why chronic wounds are slow to heal
• Provide an overview of chronic wound treatment based on TIME
• Simplify product selection based on patient and wound characteristics

• Recap of types of leg ulcers
• Provide an understanding of the importance of patient assessment in developing a wound plan
• Review treatemnt options for diabetic foot ulcers, arterial and venous ulcers
• Review compression therapy and how it works in venous leg ulcers
