WEBINAR – National Asthma Council Webinar Series

As part of the Asthma Best Practice for Professionals Program, the National Asthma Council Australia and Sydney North Health Network brings you this two-part webinar series.

GPs, Practice Nurses, Pharmacists, Aboriginal Health Practitioners and other Allied Health Professionals are invited to this webinar series, where over two sessions we will cover; Australian Asthma Handbook, pathology of asthma, triggers, diagnostic & management principles, asthma action plans, telehealth, asthma and COVID 19, asthma medications, medication delivery devices, correct device technique.

SESSION 1- ASTHMA UPDATE IN 2020 | THURSDAY 21 MAY, 2020 Speaker: Marg Gordon | Asthma Educator Marg is a registered nurse and asthma and respiratory educator. Marg is the Project Manager of the Asthma Best Practice Program for the National Asthma Council Australia, which provides asthma education support to primary health care providers around Australia. Marg also works in a nurse led respiratory clinic in a general practice in Melbourne.


SESSION 2- ASTHMA MEDICATIONS & DEVICES | THURSDAY 11 JUNE, 2020 Speaker to be confirmed


GPs, Practice Nurses, Pharmacists, Allied Health Professionals and Aboriginal Health Practitioners


Session 1 Learning Outcomes

• Define the pathophysiology of asthma

• Identify the steps involved in the diagnosis of asthma, referring to the Australian Asthma Handbook

• Summarise the important information to be included in a written asthma action plan

Session 2 Learning Outcomes

• Identify the different classes of medications used in asthma management

• Describe the importance of correct device technique in maintaining asthma control

• Demonstrate correct technique for the different asthma devices
