  • Background on syphilis in NSW, the current outbreak in Aboriginal communities in Australia and congenital cases.
  • Clinical overview of syphilis testing and treatment.
  • Antenatal testing and new NSW guidelines.
  • Contact tracing importance and options, including getting help from sexual health teams and the public health unit.
  • The key actions to reduce the risk of a syphilis outbreak in NSW are: increasing routine opportunistic screening, antenatal screening twice, prompt treatment and contact tracing.
