Suicide prevention, intervention and reporting for GPs and Practice Nurses

Sydney North Primary Health Network (SNPHN) along with Wesley LifeForce invites local GPs and Practice Nurses to this Active Learning Module. This specialised program has been designed to equip you with leading methodology and strategies in suicide prevention, intervention and reporting. This course will encourage participants to gain a greater understanding of risk assessment, suicide prevention strategies and patient support and management. Understanding the time constraints of GP consultations, this course will also demonstrate a strategy to provide assistance to a patient who may be considering suicide.

SPEAKERS:

Annette Packham – Annette has worked in adult education within community services, for 15 years. Annette’s current role is facilitating suicide prevention workshops around Australia and she is an accredited Asist Suicide Intervention Skills trainer and enthusiastic to present Mental Health First Aid.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

GPs and Primary Care Nurses

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
  • Identify the components of a mental state examination and how they contribute to the assessment of a patient who may be at risk of suicide
  • Implement the SALT suicide intervention strategy with a potentially suicidal patient
  • Identify the clues that suggest a patient presenting to a general practice may be at risk of self-harm
  • Recognise the static and dynamic factors which contribute to the degree of patient risk
COST:
No cost for GPs and Primary Care Nurses practising within the SNPHN region
