The SNPHN has developed a new range of mental health services that replace the former ATAPS program. We invited GPs and Primary Care Nurses to learn more about the new primary care mental health services and how to access and navigate them for their patients. This includes the new Mental Health Triage. There will be a focus on Youth Mental Health and include key note speaker Professor Ian Hickie, Psychiatrist.

SPEAKERS:

Professor Ian Hickie
Professor Hickie is a leading international expert on Youth Mental Health and has held senior positions in major mental health non-government organisations and has worked closely with the Department of Health. Key areas include:

  • Current Co-Director, Health and Policy at The University of Sydney’s Brain and Mind Centre
  • Current Commissioner, National Mental Health Commission to oversee enhanced accountability for mental health reform in Australia
  • Former CEO of beyondblue: the national depression initiative
  • Former member of Federal Ministers Mental Health Expert Advisory Group
TARGET AUDIENCE:

GPs and Primary Care Nurses

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
  • Explain the relevance and importance of the Stepped Care Model in the management of Mental Illness
  • Awareness of and ability to navigate new Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs services in the Northern Sydney region
  • Interpret the most recent evidence in the management of Mental Illness in Youth
  • Implement best practice in managing Youth presenting to General Practice with mental health conditions, including the most appropriate assessment tools, most appropriate management from GPs, and when referrals are necessary/ to whom referrals should be made
COST:
No cost for GPs and Practice Nurses working within Sydney North Primary Health Network region
