My Health Record: What’s Next? (Newport/Epping)

All Australians who now have a My Health Record may ask you to upload or view information in their record. Are you prepared?

This workshop will explore the My Health Record system and its medico-legal aspects to help Specialists, GPs, and allied health increase their confidence in using the system. It will delve not the systems’ features, functionalities, benefits and usage, as they relate to medical practice, clinical workflow and patients.

RACGP CPD POINTS:
This activity has been allocated 4 Category 2 points under the 2017-2019 RACGP QI & CPD program.

SPEAKERS:

Dr Laila Tabassum, Education and Support Lead, Australian Digital Health Agency. Dr Laila Tabassum is Medical doctor with a strong research and digital health background. She has worked on and with My Health Record for the past five years. She is passionate about My Health Record becoming the platform for providing integrated care to all Australians.

Ms Karen Keogh, Partner, Health team, HWL Ebsworth Lawyers. Karen Keogh specialises in corporate and commercial work providing general healthcare and legal advice on a wide range of issues across the health industry. In the last few years, Karen has been instructed in various matters relating to digital health providing advice on contracting arrangements with third parties, privacy and data breach issues, cybersecurity and website terms and conditions.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

GPs, Specialists and Allied Health Professionals.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
  • List the features and benefits of the My Health Record system.
  • Describe how to inform patients of the benefits of the My Health Record system.
  • Describe the privacy and security measures taken to protect My Health Record and how to discuss privacy concerns.
  • Describe how accessing My Health Record can contribute to patient care.
  • Apply practice policies and procedures with regard to regulatory compliance, consent, privacy, negligence and subpoenas.
COST:
There is no cost for GPs or health professionals working within the SNHN region.
