Managing Dementia: the GP and the Geriatrician

Sydney North Health Network invites all General Practitioners, Nurses, Allied Health Professionals, Pharmacists, to this face-to-face workshop. The third in a series for practices enrolled in the Dementia Quality Improvement Program, we have opened registrations more widely to all practices in the region with the aim of supporting general practice in the management of patients with cognitive impairment and dementia. This session focuses on the role of GP and geriatrician and co-management of patients.

 

Format:

Evening session:  face to face training, limited to 40 participants

NOTE: This face to face workshop will adhere to the NSW Health Guidelines and requirements.  Masks may be required to be worn and all delegates and trainers will need to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 in order to gain access to this event in accordance with current NSW Government requirementsProof of vaccination will be required. If you are experiencing any respiratory symptoms or are unwell, please do not attend this education event. If an SNHN event is cancelled due to the requirements of a NSW Public Health Order participants will be informed.

SPEAKERS:

Dr Yog Chopra | Staff Specialist Geriatric & General Medicine, Hornsby Ku-Ring-Gai Hospital

Dr Yog Chopra is a Specialist Physician with a keen interest in teaching through his role as a Clinical Associate Lecturer with the University of Sydney. Dr Chopra’s clinical interests include cognitive assessments, dementia, polypharmacy, frailty, falls prevention, osteoporosis management, rehabilitation, management of complex and chronic disease and perioperative medicine. Dr Chopra is also working with Sydney North Health Network on the Geri to GP program.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This complimentary evening workshop is open to GPs and practice nurses, allied health professionals and pharmacists practicing within the Northern Sydney PHN region.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

As a result of participating in this workshop I am able to:

  • Review appropriate management of dementia in general practice
  • Select when to involve the geriatrician
  • Explore ideas for quality improvement within my practice
