LGBTI inclusive practice in caring for older people – Chatswood

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trasgender and Intersex Inclusive Service for Health Professionals.

Sydney North Health Network (SNHN) invites local GPs, Nurses, Pharmacists Health Professionals and Residential Aged Care Facility Staff to gain a better understanding of the needs of older LGBTI people. Training aligns with changing attitudes, policies and legislation regarding the LGBTI communities, ensuring staff can deliver an inclusive best practice approach to their patients. This workshop will help participant understanding of LGBTI culture and unique health aspects, with a focus on inclusive practices for aged care workers through discussion with like-minded people, compelling video content from the community, and learning activities.

JOE LONN | TRAINING MANAGER, ACON
Joe Lonn is the manager of training services at ACON. Originally from New York, he has delivered over 700 training sessions throughout his career across a diverse range of industries. He specialises in developing, implementing, and facilitating professional development and training programs. Joe holds a master’s degree in Business Operations from Regis University and a Bachelor of Science from Johnson & Wales University.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

This full day course will help participants to:

  • Identify LGBTI-specific opportunities to improve your provision of person-directed care
  • Recognise and relate to the lived experiences of LGBTI people as well as the health impacts of social stigma and assumptions
  • Outline your awareness of ageing LGBTI people’s health and wellbeing needs for both their mental and emotional health.
  • Outline industry best-practice standards within the health and wellbeing services sector
  • Champion organisational change in both independent and co-dependent manners
COST:
No cost for GPs, Nurses, Pharmacists, Health Professionals and Residential Aged Care Facility Clinicians and their staff practising within the SNHN region
