First Line Approaches to the Assessment and Management of Dementia Related Changed Behaviours

Sydney North Health Network (SNHN) invites local provide GPs, Practice Nurses, Pharmacists and Allied Health professionals with an introduction to non-pharmacological interventions and present a systematic approach to understanding the behaviour. The seminar will also discuss the appropriate use of antipsychotic medications and strategies for deprescribing.

DR NEIL JEYASINGAM
Dr Jeyasingam is the chair of the NSW Faculty of Old Age Psychiatrists, Unit Clinical Director of Northern Beaches Mental Health and a Senior Clinical Lecturer with Sydney University. His private practice is at Barangaroo

CHRISTINE WHILE PhD, RPN
Dr While is a psychiatric nurse with many years’ experience in the care of people with dementia. Christine has a particular interest in the prevention and management of dementia related behaviour changes and previously worked with the Dementia Behaviour Management Advisory Service. She is now a learning consultant with Dementia Training Australia and Research Fellow at the Australian Centre for Evidence Based Aged Care, La Trobe University.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

GPs, Practice Nurses, Pharmacists, Allied health professionals, Pharmacists and residential aged care workers 

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
  • Describe the importance of non-pharmacological approaches to the management of dementia related changed behaviours
  • Utilise a systematic approach to understanding the behaviour and identifying intervention strategies
  • Discuss the appropriate use of antipsychotic medications
  • Discuss approaches to deprescribing antipsychotic medications

There is no cost for GPs, Practice Nurses, allied health professionals working within the SNHN region
