Annual Shared Antenatal Care Update 2024

This event is now full. 

Sydney North Health Network (SNHN) invites local GPs to an interactive day of Shared Antenatal Care education. This training will include two morning sessions addressing antenatal & postnatal checks, management of normal pregnancy symptoms and lactation problems. The afternoon sessions will include perinatal mental health, gestational diabetes management, pregnancy & diabetes and alcohol & breastfeeding and harm reduction.  You have the choice to attend the full day or just the afternoon sessions if you are an experienced Shared Antenatal GP.

8:30 am - 4:45 pm


PROGRAM:

8.30am Registration, tea & coffee and light snack
9.00am–12:35pm Morning Sessions
Basic Skills – Antenatal checks, postnatal and six week checks, management of normal pregnancy symptoms and breastfeeding

12:35-1.15pm Lunch & registration for those joining only afternoon sessions

1.15–4.45pm Afternoon Sessions
Perinatal mental health, gestational diabetes management, pregnancy & diabetes and uniformity of care, women & wine: alcohol, breastfeeding and harm reduction, hyperemesis gravidarum & PUQE guidelines and promoting optimal development in the first 2000 days.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Local General Practitioners and Nurse Practitioners practicing in the Northern Sydney Region or referring to hospitals in SNHN region.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
  • Perform antenatal examinations appropriate for stage of pregnancy
  • Implement current antenatal management guidelines for antenatal care in accordance with NHMRC Antenatal Guidelines and the GP Shared Antenatal Care Protocol
  • Demonstrate competency in performing neonatal examination and appropriate referral pathways
  • Implement harm minimisation strategies for patients experiencing perinatal mental health or alcohol and other drugs and apply appropriate referral pathways
  • Manage patients with gestational diabetes and provide uniformity of care to pregnant women with diabetes
COST:
No cost for GPs practising within the SNHN region or referring patients to hospitals in SNHN region
