Alcohol use in pregnancy: Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)

Sydney North Health Network (SNHN) invites local GPs, Nurses, Pharmacists, Allied Health Professionals and their staff to this webinar highlighting the importance of changing alcohol consumption in women of childbearing age. The aim of this webinar is to increase GP and practice nurse confidence and competence in FASD awareness and treatment. Speakers will discuss making FASD a priority in primary care, diagnostic terminology/criteria/categories, Improving long-term outcomes through Early diagnosis, Early interventions, treatment plans, diagnostic and treatment approaches beyond the paediatric populations, focus on the brain-based nature of impairments, involve families and take a strengthsbased approach, and be culturally secure and Referral options.

Dr Christina Marel is a Senior Research Fellow, NHMRC Translating Research Into Practice (TRIP) Fellow and Program Lead of Treatment and Translation in Complex Populations at the Matilda Centre for Research in Mental Health and Substance Use, USYD.

Delyse Hutchinson, PhD | Associate Professor Deakin University
Delyse Hutchinson is an Associate Professor at the Centre for Social and Early Emotional Development (SEED) at Deakin University, Melbourne. She is an Honorary Research Fellow at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute, and the Department of Paediatrics, The University of Melbourne, at the Melbourne Royal Childrens Hospital. Delyse is also a Visiting Research Fellow at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) at the UNSW.


GPs, Nurses, Pharmacists, Allied Health Professionals and their staff.

  • Increase GP/nurse awareness of prevalence and impact of FASD
  • Identify the features of FASD and the potential presentations of individuals with the conditions
  • Improve the competence in diagnosing FASD
  • Identify management referral pathways for individuals with FASD, including early intervention for FASD children
No cost for GPs, Nurses, Pharmacists, Allied Health Professionals and their staff practising within the SNHN region.
