Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Practitioner Series for Health Professionals Cultural awareness education

Sydney North Health Network (SNHN) invites GPs, Allied Health and Practice staff to an online three module CPD Accredited Activity. Over these three modules you will gain in-depth knowledge and skills in addressing and working with patients from an Aborigin al and Torres Strait Islander heritage, providing a culturally respectful environment. We will cover an introduction to Working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People in Health Care Settings, Social and Emotional Wellbeing in Aboriginal Communities and Optimising Cultural Safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in Health Care Environments. Get in fast to register as this training is limited to 12 participants.

SPEAKERS:

Eliza Pross | Director of Ochre and Salt Pty Ltd
Eliza is a proud Yuin/Nuenonne woman, who was born and has grown up on Northern Beaches Saltwater Country in Sydney. Eliza has extensive experience working across the human services sector, specifically in the areas of mental health, aged care and disability community settings. This has included 13 years working in Senior Executive roles in a community not-for-profit NGO, where she was responsible for the development and implementation of a range of service delivery programs. In her current position Eliza works with government, non-government and private organisations in the design and delivery of community development projects, including health planning, community consultation, policy and procedure development, partnership projects and cultural wellbeing programs. Eliza is also currently engaged as the consultant Curriculum Developer for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health First Aid programs. Eliza aims to develop and improve health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, from policy to practice initiatives. She holds a BA (Social Policy and Psychology), Bachelor of Social Work (Hon), Master of Policy Studies (Human Services) and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

GPs, Allied Health Professionals, Practice Staff.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

• Undertake operational checklists to improve cultural safety in the practice environment
• Create opportunities to immerse participants in cultural views and perspectives
• Apply knowledge of the impact of social determinants and health behaviours on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes
• Participate in interactive activities to practice skills when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients
