Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health: Cultural Safety Series for Frontline Workers

Sydney North Health Network (SNHN) invites frontline human service workers to a three-module course including online learning modules and an in-person 3-hour workshop.

In this course participants will learn about the elements that can affect cultural safety for your Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.

The course will explore an introduction to the social determinants of health and health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; social and emotional wellbeing in Aboriginal communities and optimising cultural safety in health and social care environments.

Registrations are limited to 17 participants.

REGISTRATION TERMS AND CONDITIONS 

This 3-module course is free of charge to “eligible participants”. To be an “eligible participant”, you need to register for and complete all 3 modules of the course. Participants who fail to attend and complete 1 or more of the 3 modules will be charged a course cancellation payment of $200 by SNHN.  Please carefully check the deadlines and understand time commitment before registering for this course.

SPEAKERS:

Eliza Pross – Director, Orche and Salt 

Eliza is a proud Yuin/Nuenonne woman, who was born and grew up on Northern Beaches Saltwater Country in Sydney. She holds a BA (Social Policy and Psychology), Bachelor of Social Work (Hon), Master of Policy Studies (Human Services) and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. Eliza aims to improve health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Human service workers (including but not limited to):

  • Health
  • Social services
  • NGOs
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
  • Use operational checklists to improve cultural safety in the practice environment
  • Create opportunities to immerse participants in cultural views and perspectives
  • Discuss the impact of social determinants and health behaviours on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes
  • Utilise course reference material to develop skills used when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
