Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Safety Training for Health and Community Service Providers

Health and Community, human service workers (health staff, social services, Local Councils, NGOs) to a three module online course provided by Sydney North Health Network (SNHN).

Over these three modules you will gain in-depth knowledge and skills in addressing and working with patients from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage, providing a culturally respectful environment.

We will explore an introduction to Working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People in Health Care Settings, Social and Emotional Wellbeing in Aboriginal Communities and Optimising Cultural Safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in Health Care Environments.

THERE ARE THREE PARTS TO THIS TRAINING – 6 hours in total

All theee modules MUST be completed in this order to successfully complete the training course:

MODULE 1 – Online Training Module | 1 hour

MODULE 2 – Zoom meeting – Camera on for the duration (small group) | 3 hours

MODULE 3 – Online Training Module | 2 hours (Must be completed by 5pm 25 May, 2022)

NOTE: Once you have registered for this training, your registration will be assessed and if you are elligible to attend, you will be sent a confirmation email. This email will contain the details of how to access the online training module 1 and how to sign up for Module 2 – The Zoom meeting.

Eliza Pross | Director of Ochre and Salt Pty Ltd

Eliza is a proud Yuin/Nuenonne woman, who was born and grew up on Northern Beaches Saltwater Country in Sydney. She holds a BA (Social Policy and Psychology), Bachelor of Social Work (Hon), Master of Policy Studies (Human Services) and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. Eliza aims to improve health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
  • Use operational checklists to improve cultural safety in the practice environment
  • Create opportunities to immerse participants in cultural views and perspectives
  • Discuss the impact of social determinants and health behaviours on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes
  • Utilise course reference material to develop skills used when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients
